Over The Weekend: Josh Shapiro Visits Barbershops and VFWs while Doug Mastriano’s Campaign Doubles Down on Hateful, Divisive Rhetoric

PENNSYLVANIA – This weekend, Attorney General Josh Shapiro met with voters throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, visiting barber shops in West Philadelphia, speaking at a reproductive rights rally at City Hall, and rallying supporters with just over two weeks to go. At the same time, Doug Mastriano was embroiled in yet another scandal over his campaign’s hateful rhetoric and his campaign recruited supporters at a far-right conference with QAnon conspiracy theorists.

On Saturday, Josh kicked off the weekend with a barber shop tour, where he listened to voters’ concerns and talked about his plans to make our communities safer and support small businesses. From there Josh went to City Hall, where he rallied with supporters and reminded voters that he will always defend reproductive rights in Pennsylvania – while Doug Mastriano has said his “number one” issue is banning all abortion.

On Sunday, Josh met with the Latino community at the Concilio in North Philadelphia, where he spoke about his plans to lower costs, reduce taxes, create jobs, improve schools, and make our communities safer. Then, he went to meet with supporters in Northeast Philadelphia, where he rallied a packed room of supporters, urging them to get their friends and neighbors out to vote on November 8th.

As Josh was bringing together a broad coalition of Pennsylvanians, Mastriano’s campaign was doubling down on his extremism. The Mastriano campaign’s senior legal adviser, Jenna Ellis, was called out for her hateful, divisive rhetoric. The CEO of the Anti-Defamation League called out the Mastriano campaign, saying it has “repeatedly has employed anti-Jewish stereotypes and engaged with antisemites.” The Mastriano campaign is so paranoid in the closing days of this campaign that not only are they still refusing to take any questions, but they are even having campaign staffers closely follow reporters and wait for them outside the door as they use the bathroom at campaign events.

While Doug Mastriano continues to alienate Pennsylvania voters with his extreme agenda, Josh will continue to show up in every corner of our Commonwealth and build on the broad coalition of support from Republicans, Democrats, and Independents in order to win in November.
