NEWS: Boilermakers Union Local 154 Endorses Josh Shapiro for Governor

PENNSYLVANIA – Today, the Boilermakers Union Local 154 – representing over 1,500 skilled craftsmen and women and industrial workers in the energy and manufacturing sectors across Western Pennsylvania – endorsed Attorney General Josh Shapiro for Governor. Local 154 has a history of endorsing candidates from both parties – in 2020, they endorsed Donald Trump for President, and in 2010 and 2014, they endorsed Tom Corbett for Governor – but they are now endorsing Josh Shapiro because they know that he has a long track record of standing up for Pennsylvania workers and their rights, and will create jobs and grow the economy as Governor.

“The hardworking men and women of Boilermakers Local 154 help power Pennsylvania every day, and I am proud to know that they have my back in this campaign,” said Attorney General Josh Shapiro. “I have always fought for working people and the union way of life as Attorney General, and as Governor, I will continue to defend workers’ rights. Together, we will grow our economy and embrace Pennsylvania’s role as an energy powerhouse to protect the energy jobs of today while lowering costs and creating the jobs of tomorrow.”

“We’re here today to proudly announce our support and endorsement of Josh Shapiro, the Democratic nominee for governor of Pennsylvania. Our next governor will create a blueprint for the future of Pennsylvania, and we know Josh is committed to protecting workers, supporting energy, and growing our economy,” said Boilermakers Local 154 Business Manager Mike Stanton at today’s press conference. “Regardless of political party, we are focused on the candidate and the choice was clear in this governor’s race. We feel confident that Josh will embrace our concerns, and he has promised us a seat at the table when it comes to energy in Pennsylvania.”

As Attorney General, Shapiro took on the Commonwealth’s largest construction company when they ripped off their employees, winning more than $20 million in restitution for Pennsylvania workers – and throughout the pandemic, Josh held employers accountable who broke the law, and cracked down on worker misclassification to ensure workers get the benefits they’ve earned.

As Governor, Josh Shapiro will always stand with the hard working men and women of the Boilermakers Union as an advocate for their collective bargaining rights. Josh will be an all-of-the-above energy Governor, protecting the energy jobs of today, and investing in energy projects that create the jobs of tomorrow.

Since launching his campaign in October, a strong coalition of working men and women have supported Josh and his vision for the Commonwealth, and he’s been endorsed by major labor organizations like the the Pennsylvania Conference of Teamsters, Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, the Pennsylvania Amalgamated Transit Union, the EAS Carpenters, Pennsylvania State Council of Sheet Metal Workers, and the Pennsylvania Professional Firefighters Association.
