ICYMI: Mastriano A No Show at PA Chamber Dinner – Josh Shapiro Asks, “Why Aren’t You Here? What Are You Hiding?”

The Pennsylvania Chamber has hosted a gubernatorial debate in every election since 1986 – but Mastriano refused to show up because he didn’t want to answer questions from an independent moderator.

PENNSYLVANIALast night, as he addressed the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry’s annual dinner, Attorney General Josh Shapiro called out Doug Mastriano for refusing the Chamber’s invitation to appear before 2,000 Pennsylvania business leaders because he didn’t want to take questions about his extreme agenda.

For over 30 years, the Pennsylvania Chamber has hosted a gubernatorial debate, but tonight was this first year since 1986 they did not host one – all because Doug Mastriano refused to agree to answer questions from an independent moderator.

See here for Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s question to Doug Mastriano at last night’s Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry dinner:

Luke Bernstein, President & CEO, Pennsylvania Chamber: “So, your opponent is not here. And ideally, we’d be having a debate. If he were here, what would you ask him and why?”

Attorney General Josh Shapiro: “You know, I don’t know, Luke. I think the real question is, why aren’t you here? No, seriously, I don’t know what this guy’s hiding. He doesn’t answer questions from the media. He doesn’t answer questions from everyday Pennsylvanians. And unless you think like him, unless you vote like him, unless you worship like him or marry like him, then you don’t count in his Pennsylvania. I want to be a Governor for all 13 million Pennsylvanians, whether you vote for me or not. And I want to make sure that the rule of law and the table of progress is set for all — no matter what you look like or where you come from, who you love or who you pray to. We need a Governor who’s going to look out for all Pennsylvanians and this guy is so extreme and so dangerous, and the more he fails to show up and answer questions from you and the local media across Pennsylvania, participate in this great tradition that’s been going on for decades — the more we have to ask ourselves, what is he hiding?”

Attorney General Josh Shapiro has spent this entire campaign traveling all across Pennsylvania, meeting people where they are, and focusing on his vision to create jobs, improve our schools, and make our communities safer. While Mastriano routinely blocks reporters from covering his events and refuses to answer any questions, Shapiro has done hundreds of interviews with media outlets across the political spectrum and interacts with Pennsylvania reporters in every corner of the Commonwealth.

For the next 35 days, Attorney General Shapiro will continue working to bring together Democrats, Republicans, and Independents in order to win this race and build a better future for our Commonwealth.
